The age of lightness and anxiety

Obraz
Milan Kundera has been amongst the most popular Czechoslovak exile authors. Escaping to France, his beloved land, he wrote plentiful books, which entail complicated reflections on human beings along with satirical comments on the address on their pride and vanity.  After multiple, rather unsuccessful attempts of mine to read the author in french I finally got to the artwork considered to be his greatest: The unbearable lightness of being. The author offers a plethora of motives, some are more accurate, and some seem rather tense and artificial in the book. Before diving deep into what each of the motives means in the book, I will get into the characters of the book.  The story mentions 4 core characters, primarily the young couple of Tomáš and Tereza, starting off rather abruptly after "6 happy coincidences", resulting in something resembling very close to the notion of true love. However, their love is troublesome and erratic at the same time, as Tomáš, a renowned surgeon in...

Sklárstvo na Slovensku

Obraz

DANCE DANCE DANCE. A hommage to sleepless nights.

Obraz
Handing in my statistics exam, I was off for a well-deserved two-week break from school. I decided to read through yet another book from my sweetheart Haruki Murakami. After reading through The wind-up bird chronicle and Norwegian Wood and after disappointment from Pinball 1971, I was intrigued to see where I would assert his book DANCE DANCE DANCE. Fortunately for Murakami, it exceeded my expectations. It landed up being second, if not my favourite book from him.  The book begins with a bemused narrator who explains a doomed romance story in the so-called Dolphin Hotel. Even though years have passed, the past memories seem to haunt him, and he feels a strange need to turn his life around and revisit the hotel. What follows is a twist and turn of bizarre characters and destinations, which make the reader want to pack his things up and leave for a holiday destination.  What I find personally discouraging from reading yet another Murakami book (and DANCE DANCE DANCE is not an ex...

Don't look up. Memoires of crooked world

Obraz
If you had asked me for the most prominent film surprise of the year 2021, it would be definitely Adam Mckay's Don't Look Up. Originally author of relatively cheap comedies, earning his name by the movie Big Short, many expectations were held from a stellar cast the movie had (from Ariana Grande to Chris Evans) and I suppose the movie was able to meet them. Filmed during the pandemic, the cast had to live together with the producers, and the outcome is seen through exhilarating performances. Even though the film depicts the end of humanity, it still manages to be hilarious at times, which is a quality I have to assess only positively.  The story starts as a PhD candidate at Michigan university, Kate Dibiasski (Jennifer Lawrence), discovers a giant comet the size of Mt. Everest. The problems begin when her associate professor Randall Mindy (Leonardo DiCaprio), calculates that the comet hurtles toward the planet Earth, which will result in a clash with fatal consequences.  What ...

No a ona, krava sprostá, ako posledná chudera ten r...

FRENCH DISPATCH HYPE or what it really all is about

Obraz
As plenty of others people already went through the Wes Anderson new movie "The French Dispatch" I could not wait to see what was the hype all about. Quoted as "finally a film for people with New Yorker tote bags", and released in 2021, people were craving for another visually stunning Wes Anderson masterpiece, a carefully crafted work of art.  As palette of quality stars which seem to reappear with every single one of the newer movies was a given, I was really expecting high quality entertainment for a Friday night.  The French dispatch did not spark such strong emotions with me as The Grand Budapest hotel or The Isle of Dogs, his previous films that he became positively acknowledged for, especially the former. It was certainly not because of the Anderson's incompetence, but French Dispatch seems to fail at entertaining the author at particular parts of the film.  Tilda Swinton as J. K. L. Chuťovka na ťažké časy.

Petrík vyrastá so svojimi starými rodičmi, ktorí mu okrem životných lekcií, prešporáckej nemčiny a maďarčiny poskytujú stratený domov.
